A Palworld dedicated server lets a group share a world without relying on one player to keep the game open. The useful part is persistence: friends can build and explore on different schedules. The administrative challenge is keeping that world recoverable as bases grow, settings change, and updates arrive.
Before comparing plans, record the platforms your friends use and decide whether you are starting fresh or transferring a save. Those two choices affect the setup more than a headline slot allowance.
Confirm how every player will connect
Pocketpair distinguishes a dedicated server from a community server by whether it is registered in the in-game server list. Its current documentation supports crossplay across the listed platforms and says Xbox and PS5 players need a community server. Verify the documentation for your installed version, especially when following an older tutorial.
Build a small connection checklist for the group: platform, game version, server name, and joining method. Test with a player on each relevant platform before transferring a valued world. A successful connection from the administrator’s PC does not establish that the whole group can join.
Plan for bases and activity as well as players
Describe the world you intend to run when asking for a plan recommendation. Include your peak group size, existing save size, intended mods, and whether players want unusually large bases or higher creature counts. Ask how resource limits are enforced and what an upgrade requires.
Establish a baseline on default settings before raising multiple limits. Pocketpair identifies several base and Pal settings as increasing processing load. Change one area at a time, play a representative session, and compare responsiveness at busy bases. This is more useful than assuming spare memory alone will fix every slowdown.
Edit the active settings file carefully
Pocketpair’s configuration guide places the active settings in PalWorldSettings.ini under the platform-specific server configuration directory. Editing only DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini does not apply your changes. Managed panels may generate the active file for you, so check whether the panel or the file is the source of truth.
Keep a copy before editing and stop the server when your provider’s workflow requires it. Start with a server name, appropriate access settings, and a distinct administrator password. Then change gameplay settings in small groups. Record the previous values so you can reverse a decision without guessing.
Protect both world and player progress
Treat a world transfer as a migration, not simply a file upload. Confirm which save directories and player data are needed for your source and destination. Keep the original untouched, launch the copy privately, and ask returning players to verify their characters, guild relationships, inventory, and bases.
Set a backup schedule that matches how much progress your group is willing to lose. Also take a separate backup before updates and major configuration changes. Keep at least one downloadable copy outside the active hosting account, and test restoration before a problem makes it urgent.
Build a repeatable maintenance routine
Choose a maintenance window and announce it where players already coordinate. Before updating, save the world, create a recovery copy, and check client/server compatibility. After the update, test joining and visit a developed base; an empty starting area is not a representative check of a mature world.
If the server slows down, collect timestamps, active-player counts, recent changes, and host resource graphs before requesting help. Share the details through support rather than posting administrative credentials. A clear report makes it easier to distinguish a configuration issue, a resource limit, and a game problem.

Frequently asked questions
Can console friends join a Palworld dedicated server?
Check Pocketpair’s current platform guidance. Its documentation says Xbox and PS5 players need the server configured as a community server, and your chosen host must expose the required settings.
Can I increase every base limit safely?
Higher limits can increase the workload. Back up first, adjust gradually, and test populated bases before treating the settings as permanent.
